About Our Service Charge
A 22% service charge is applied to all dine-in checks. This charge is retained by Messina and distributed across our team to support competitive, above-market wages for both front and back of house staff.
This model allows us to move away from the traditional tipping structure while ensuring our team is fairly and consistently compensated. The service charge is incorporated into our general operating revenue alongside food and beverage sales.
Gratuity is not expected, though always appreciated.
Are tips expected when a service charge is included?
Optional gratuities are neither required nor expected. If you feel that your server or bartender has provided outstanding service, optional gratuity is always welcomed and appreciated – your server and bartender receive 100% of any tips you choose to give.
Many of our guests enjoy the opportunity to express their gratitude for exceptional service, which is why we offer the option to leave a tip when paying by credit card.
How is the service team compensated in a service charge model?
Our entire team — front and back of house — earns a competitive hourly wage well above Seattle's minimum wage and industry standard. We believe that fairly compensating the people who make your experience exceptional isn't optional, and our pay structure reflects that. Any gratuity you choose to leave goes directly and entirely to your server.
Why did we choose a service charge model?
Choosing a service charge model enables us to improve the traditional tipping system, which often results in unpredictable and sometimes inequitable income for our employees. This model promotes a more consistent distribution of income and ensures that all team members, from front-of-house to back-of-house staff, receive higher base wages. By embracing this model, we honor the collective effort that goes into creating memorable dining moments.
Why is sales tax calculated on top of the service charge?
Under Washington State law, employers are required to collect sales tax on service charges. This ensures our compliance with state tax regulations.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding as we strive to take care of those who take care of you.
